Broken Friends Should Be On There Too

wii sports graph bars ftw

I’ll never forget my first experience playing Wii Sports. We loaded up some tennis and in the first game alone I smacked the chair two feet to my right, I took out the person I was playing with on my left, and I literally dove for a shot and almost went headfirst into the television. It probably won’t come as a surprise to hear that I’m currently sitting here with a broken foot. Coordination problems, I haz them.

  1. While playing Wii Boxing, the nephew was lunging to deliver a nasty uppercut.

Yeah, he delivered one, all right, right to the chin of the basset hound.

  2. I was playing boxing for like 2 or 3 days straight and I built up one heck of a bicep! But it’s gone now… :(

“Motion controls are eventually going to face the fact that people play games to unwind, and no one unwinds by waving their arms around like an air traffic controller covered in beetles.”

      What happened to having fun?

      • Qix says:

Oh, I enjoy having fun. For me though, a mouse/gamepad IS more fun than the waggle controls. Being force fed weird control schemes are not fun. They are annoying. The Wii is also not very accurate. I can be much more precise with a mouse. There is a reason FPS’s have not gone very far on the Wii. Maybe its a generational thing though. I grew up with a NES gampad, then a mouse in Sierra adventure games and Id’s shareware FPS’s. Its what I know, what I’m good with.

Fun? Since when is gaming about fun? It’s all about the WIN bitches!

      • LAZR Blade 14 says:

Well, you have a point there. But, another beef I have about motion controls is that once you get past the gimmicky titles such as sports and what-not, what then? There are a lot of things in video games that can’t be impersonated in real-life, no matter how fancy-schmansy motion controls get.

    • Marksman says:

Well, that too, and the fact that all other games than the “ones where you wave your arms like an air traffic controller covered in beetles” on the Wii are the endless….*shudder*…Mario Games. ARRGH

  4. Lincoln says:

Heh, I’m always calm about the Wii games and usually win. As always in video games, laziness prevails. =)

  5. Broken foot? Ouch. :/

I’ve never broken anything or flailed around with the wiimote, for the most part. Can’t say the same for my friend Amanda who decided that she was tired of losing at bowling and decided to beat me with the wiimote instead.

    -.-

I have also decided that the Wii is totally biased to the physically handicapped gamer. I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis in most joints, including elbows, wrists and fingers – and henceforth I’m completely shit at playing Wii games (I once played Sonic and Mario Olympics and couldn’t finish the sprint!). Now in Xbox 360/Playstation games I kick a bit more arse thankfully.

    • newguy2445 says:

No offense but what would you like Nintendo to do?

      • soulofaqua says:

Well Nintendo always was fond to try and help their handicapped gamers as shown with 1989’s NES Handsfree
        http://gizmodo.com/5242463/nes-hands-free-let-you-control-mario-with-your-tongue
and for the Wii there are handicapped controllers as well but they eliminate what makes the Wii just that slight bit less of a PIECE OF CRAP. The special motion controls.

Newguy2445 – I think you misunderstood my post and thought I was being deadpan serious, I am not. Yes, I have joint problems and struggle playing Wii and I don’t expect Nintendo to bring out something like Sonic and Mario Special Olympics for gamers with similar difficulties (although the game concept seems like fun for all the wrong reasons). I was merely pointing out another reason why I should not buy this little white console turd.

I would like to like the Wii but it’s just a bit too casual and kiddie for me. Only games I’ve enjoyed playing are the quiz ones.

I broke the fan the first time I played =P

I jumped to make a high shot in Tennis and smashed the fan XD

Had to get it fixed the next day as it was Summer and I was melting. Still on the occasions I play Wii Sports I find it rather fun.

  8. AusQB says:

I’ve nearly gotten hit in the head a few times playing Tennis, since we play sitting down.

  10. Admiral Madden says:

I don’t know how it works, but my little cousin can beat anyone at boxing on the WII… that was until I stopped facing the screen and “Played” in her general direction.

you can still see the bruises…

*trembles when cousin wants to play the WII*
